Through Week 4 of the 2025 season, the dynamic kickoff is already having big leaguewide impacts on offense. From starting field position to total yards per game, see how the 2025 season stacks up against all-time record lows and highs through Week 4.
The dynamic kickoff was first implemented in 2024 but was updated for the 2025 season to move the starting yard line after a touchback into the end zone from the 30-yard line to the 35-yard line. Kickoffs that land in the landing zone and roll into the end zone for a touchback are brought out to the 20-yard line, and any dynamic kickoff that lands short of the landing zone is brought out to the 40.

Team Performance
Through Week 4, the Panthers (22.6-yard line) and Rams (23.4-yard line) have been the most effective teams at pinning their opponents deep. These are the only two teams who have had opponents start drives inside the 25-yard line after a kickoff (return or touchback). The lowest-ranking teams are the 49ers (33.7-yard line), Raiders (32.7-yard line), and Saints (32.4-yard line).
With less distance to travel to the endzone after a kickoff, teams are averaging just 322.8 total yards per game (YPG) leaguewide this season. This is the lowest total yards average in the NFL since 2006 (322.1 yards), down nearly 40 total average yards per game since 2020 (359 yards).

Teams are also averaging their fewest pass yards per game (207.8 yards) and first downs per game (19.2 downs) in the last decade. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott leads the NFL with 1,119 passing yards through Week 4. This is the lowest passing yards leader through Week 4 since 1993, when Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Warren Moon led the NFL with just 954 pass yards in 1993.
Punts were first tracked in 1939, and 2025 is on pace to feature the fewest punts per game in any season since then (3.6 per team, 7.3 per game).
