NFL owners voted to adopt a rules proposal that extends the use of instant replay review at the league’s spring meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The new rule, submitted by the Competition Committee, expands reviewable plays to the following administrative items:

  • Penalty enforcement
  • Proper down
  • Spot of a foul
  • Status of the game clock.

The in-stadium replay official and designated members of the Officiating Department at the league office in New York may now consult with on-field officials during games to provide information on how to correctly apply these items.
