My Cause My Cleats

NFL Players Lace Up for Charitable Causes

More than 800 NFL players will showcase causes that are important to them with custom cleats during all Week 13 games, as part of the NFL's My Cause My Cleats campaign.

As part of the collaboration between the NFL and players, players will represent hundreds of charitable organizations that focus on causes from youth wellness to sex trafficking prevention and support for single parents.

New in 2017, the NFL celebrated Unboxing Day, a league-wide unveiling of the players’ custom cleats. Players unboxed their cleats in hospital visits, classrooms, locker rooms and on stadium fields on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 28. Through Week 13, players will share images of their cleats and the stories behind them on social media, using the hashtag #mycausemycleats.

Beginning in Week 8, the league started posting videos and profile cards on NFL.com to tell the stories behind the cleats. Many players have worked directly with Nike, Under Armour and adidas to design their cleats. Other teams worked with an independent designer to create cleats for participating players.

Every cleat tells a story

Driven by the story of Gabriel Taye, an 8-year-old Cincinnati boy who committed suicide in January after repeated bullying at school, Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap is raising awareness about the dangers of bullying and how to be a difference maker in stopping it.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, whose mother Peggy died from colon cancer in 2013, is supporting his Faith, Fight, Finish Foundation, which brings awareness to cancer.

Many players have joined forces to support social justice and equality causes. Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins (Malcolm Jenkins Foundation), Bengals defensive end Michael Johnson (MJ93-90 Foundation) and Ravens tight end Benjamin Watson (International Justice Mission) are three of several players using their cleats to effect social change and raise awareness for human rights, race relations and criminal justice reform.

Commitment to Causes

These are just a few examples of the causes important to players and the ways they'll express their commitment.

“Our players are passionate supporters of many charitable causes and serve as changemakers in their communities," said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. "We are excited to build upon last year's success and work with our players to expand this unique platform that enables them to raise awareness for causes they support.”

Players will have the opportunity to raise money for their cause by auctioning their cleats off at NFL Auction; 100 percent of money raised will be donated to the player’s charities. Fans may bid on game-issued player cleats to help players raise funds for their chosen causes.
